All senior citizens who have registered for their vaccination and have not got their appointments can now “walk-in” for their vaccinations from tomorrow (Aug 2).

Among the centres providing this service in the mainland are the PPV Dewan Millenium in Seberang Perai Utara, PPV  SP Arena in Seberang Perai Tengah and the  PPV Dewan Serbaguna Jawi in Seberang Perai Selatan.

The announcement was made by Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow today.

However, for those senior citizens on the island, they can walk-in to SPICE Convention Centre on Aug 3, 2021 for their vaccinations.

Meanwhile, a sand sculpture created by a local artist, Ikhwan Saloot awaits those visiting the Spice Arena.

The project was sponsored by the Penang State Executive Councillor’s office for Tourism and Creative Economy.

It is meant to be a token of appreciation to honour and thank the frontliners who have contributed greatly throughout this Covid-19 pandemic.

The sculpture stands some 7 ft (L) x 6 ft (H) depicting a hand of a healthcare personnel in a hand glove holding a vaccine bottle.

It is also a symbolic representation of the commendable vaccination rollout in Malaysia and Penang thus far.

“The sand sculpture is more than just a normal display or exhibit. It is a living example of creative expression and an artistic approach, which is one of the main emphases under my newly established creative economy portfolio,” said state exco Yeoh Soon Hin.

He also added that the sand sculpture is eco-friendly and is made up from natural substances such as 700kg of fine river sand.

“It showcases the integration of sustainability in creative activities, further aligning to the state’s macro-outlook – Penang 2030 Vision.

‘This pandemic has undeniably hampered many livelihoods, especially those from the tourism and creative sector.

“Nonetheless, I am delighted to learn that our creative players still seize the opportunity to give back to the community in the face of adversity,” he added.

It is hoped that Penangites who go SPICE for their vaccination, can take a moment to appreciate this creative exhibit.
