With the earth getting warmer and global warming becoming a stark reality, embracing green initiatives is the only way forward.

With this in mind, the Penang State Government has launched some 87 smart initiatives to this regard.

Their aim is to reach a target of 100 smart initiatives.

Among them are the  Penang Smart Parking (PSP), the change of our street lighting to 100% LED and all our public agencies cashless transaction-able, with 23 government agencies now operational with 70% usage at a value of RM 1.1 billion.

Another such initiative is the launch of the solar energy initiative at Seberang Perai City Council  which is the 3rd of its kind which will be expanded to many other government agencies in the near future.

Present to launch the ceremony was State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.

“We will also continue to use smart technology in our battle against global warming and the Covid-19 pandemic which is far from over.

“I would also like to commend the Seberang Perai City Council for implementing these green initiatives like solar panels to safeguard the environment and also harvest green energy,” said Jagdeep in his address.

The agreement dubbed Supply Agreement of Renewable Energy (SARE) was signed between the Seberang Perai City Council, TNB and GSPARX.

“The council is committed to become a “Low Carbon City” by 2022. Solar panels will be installed at the Bertam Sports Complex, Jalan Betek Sports Complex and the Council office at Jalan Betek,” added Jagdeep.

Via the project, the council will also be able to sell access power being generated to TNB thus lowering their electricity costs.

Syabas Seberang Perai City Council for this forward thinking initiative and in the process saving Mother Earth.
