Famed Hong Kong-based restaurant, San Xi Lou has officially launched its first Malaysian outlet at the prestigious Gurney Paragon Mall, bringing a new wave of upscale Chinese dining to the island’s vibrant food scene.
The launch ceremony was graced by YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, who was welcomed by Stanley Chuk, Founder and Chairman of San Xi Lou.
Also present were Dato’ Seri Khor Teng Tong, Founder of Hunza Group, and Ms. Khor Tze Ming, Group Executive Director of Hunza Properties Berhad, alongside other distinguished guests and partners.
San Xi Lou is a name synonymous with culinary excellence in Hong Kong’s competitive food scene. The restaurant has successfully expanded beyond Hong Kong with outlets in Taiwan and Vietnam, and has plans to open in Japan following the Penang launch.
“The name San Xi Lou originates from San Xi Tang, the famed study of Emperor Qianlong during the Qing Dynasty, which housed his treasured calligraphy scrolls,” explained Chuk. “In the same spirit, our restaurant pays homage to three of China’s most treasured culinary pillars. By blending tradition with refined execution, we aim to showcase the unique charm and sophistication of Chinese cuisine.”
He added, “Penang’s strong food culture and cosmopolitan palate make it a perfect home for San Xi Lou. We see strong growth potential here and are confident that our offering will resonate well with local diners and visitors alike.”

In his address, YB Wong Hon Wai expressed his gratitude to San Xi Lou for choosing Penang as its Malaysian launchpad.
