Some 200 delegates of the Penang International Travel Exchange (PITE) were treated to a farewell dinner at the Hin Bus Depot last night.

On offer were the finest of Penang’s popular food and desserts.

The delegates were from 14 countries namely, China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Brunei, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The dinner was organised by the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) here.

The delegates had taken part in several B2B sessions to forge new business and also taken on a tour of Penang’s popular tourist sights and UNESCO Heritage attractions.

Leading the welcoming committee was PCEB’s Chief Executive Officer, Ashwin Gunasekeran and his team.

The VIP guest was the state Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai who was also accompanied by PCEB’s board of director who is also the vice president for the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Dato Khoo Boo Lim.

Also present were the sales team members of Penang’s hospitality industry and general managers of the various hotels too.As the delegates enjoyed local favourites like the Char Koay Yeow,Hokkein Mee, Nasi Briyani, Curry Mee, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, Ice Kacang, Satay,and a host of desserts, they were entertained by the five-piece band – Wonders.


They rendere several English, Indonesian, Chinese and Hindi numbers to get the guests on the dance floor.

In his farewell address, Wong said that he has heard that over the past few days, he has heard great feedback about the energy, enthusiasm, and connections that have defined this year’s Penang International Travel Exchange. 

“It is clear that this event has created meaningful exchanges and newopportunities. PITE 2024 is more than just sharing ideas and business cards; it is about building connections between people, cultures, and goals. 

“This gathering shows what we can achieve when we work together with a common purpose. In the last three days, you’ve experienced what makes Penang more than just a destination; it’s a place where heritage and innovation come together. 

“Beyond the beautiful streets of George Town and the delicious food from our hawker stalls, I hope you have felt the warmth and hospitality of our people, which truly reflects the spirit of Penang”, said Wong.

He extended his sincere gratitude to all of you — the international buyers, exhibitors, sponsors and partners too. He also thanked the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) and Ace Conferences, the backbone of PITE’s success.

With the formalities over, guests had a chance to mingle and pose for the camera to create fond memories and lasting friendship.
