Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow was on hand to witness the Phase 2 of vaccination programme for the elderly folk and senior citizens at the Kompleks Masyarakat Penyayang this morning.
“We are among the first states to have implemented the vaccination programme for the elderly. Around 400 people have been shortlisted for the vaccination today.
“We are happy to note the confidence of the people to register for this vaccination programme, ” said State Health Director Dr Asmayani Khalib.
“The presence of the CM today shows our commitment towards making this programme a success,” she added.
Meanwhile, Chow said that after about two months we are ready to invite the elderly citizens to receive their vaccine under Phase 2.
“Today we also invited those close to 100 years-old and others on the priority list to receive their vaccination. We hope to vaccine more people and create awareness about the programme.
“We have only received around 44 to 45 per cent registration and encourage more people to register for the vaccination,” said Chow.
He also called on those who have registered on MySejahtera app to counter check their dates for vaccination.
“We are on track to reach the target of 1.34 million people in the state. We are also considering economic frontliners and those who are unable to travel so that this programme is a success.
“We currently have five stations in the various districts for the vaccination project,” added Chow at the press conference.
