The Argyll Road Wan Tan Mee outlet is among the popular ones with locals who have been patronizing the eatery for years.

But as the Covid-19 pandemic took its toll on everyone and even small businesses, many had to fast forward to embrace new technology to remain relevant.

One such outlet is the Argyll Road Wan Tan Mee outlet which moved with time to go virtual to promote their popular Wan Tan Mee.

Owner, Choo Wee Keong and his wife Chan Mei Yang have been operating their outlet for the past five years.

“People from all walks of life patronize our outlet to enjoy our homemade Wan Tan Mee but the pandemic greatly affected our business and we had to evolve with time.

“My daughter came up with the idea of posting on Facebook and we started in July to experiment vacuum packing the ingredients to ensure the lifespan of the products.

“We initially delivered to family and friends in Kuala Lumpur and Johor to ensure the packing and ingredients can last the time taken to deliver the goods by courier service.

“From our small experimental sessions we managed to determine the shelf life of the vacuum packed items and they could last for more than a week,” said Choo.

“The main ingredients were the raw noodles, black sauce, green chili, oil and crispy pork lard. The other ingredients of char siew and dumpling could not last the delivery time so we do not include them for deliveries,” he added.

Later, by August they started receiving orders from Kuala Lumpur, Johor, and even as far as Sabah and Sarawak. At the peak of MCO, they received orders for up to 2,000 packages but now with the reopening of inter-state travel, the numbers have fallen.

“There were customers who ordered 20-50 packages at one time. They enjoy our Wan Tan Mee and we are also happy that we embraced the new technology, added Choo.
