Work on the expansion of the Penang International Airport (PIA) is expected to commence by Q3 of this year.
In sharing this update, State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Wong Hon Wai added that in the meantime, to ease the congestion at the customs area, new luggage scanners will be installed to ensure smooth flow of baggage.
“By the end of the exercise, there will be five luggage scanners at the airport for the convenience of travellers and tourists. This will surely help ease the congestion at the airport.
“Then, a new body scanner will be installed to assist customs officers to carry out their duties,” said Wong who was briefed by officials while on his official visit to the PIA recently.
He also added that the new link bridge connecting the main airport will also open by early May which will go a long way to offer convenience for travellers.
He also added that some 18 airlines are operating from Penang International Airport connecting local and international destinations.
The expansion is inline with the growing number of tourists and travelers coming to Penang.
