Top Kollywood movie stars are expected to descend in Penang for the 17th edition of the Edison Awards & Edison Film Festival.
This will be the first time the glamorous award ceremony will be held in Penang.The award presentation will be held at the Spice Arena on April 4th & 5th, 2025.
A press conference to announce the showcase was held at the Light Hotel Penang attended by State Exco for Housing and Environment Dato Seri S Sundarajoo Somu, Assemblyman for Bagan Dalam, Calvin Krishnan, Penang Island City Council Mayor Dato A. Rajendran, Datin Barathi (General Manager Chief Minister Incorporated, Dato S. Parthiban (President of Malaysia Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Penang) among others.
Also making his presence was Kollywood film star – Satish.
Among the nominations Hero Male- Rajini, Kamala Hassan, Vijay, Suria, Sivakarthigeyan, Vijay Sethupathi, Simbu, Danush, Vikram, Yogi Babu among others.
Nomination for female actresses are – Keerthi Suresh, Nayanthara, Tamannaah, Trisha, Ramya among others.
The film festival will also honour films and talents in 33 categories. Event organiser, J. Selvakumar said that they chose Penang because it was the first place where people from India landed in Malaysia.
“We will have Indians from various parts of the world attending this event. A dance group from Canada will also perform”, said Selvakumar who also helped organise the Global Organisation of Tamil Origin or GOTO last year in Penang..
Meanwhile, Sundarajoo said that this event is a spinoff from last year’s event – GOTO. We are happy to bring this glamorous gathering to Penang and fans to enjoy.
We have the backing of the Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow who has given his blessings to organise this event,” he added.
Satish said that he is pleased to be here and meet the Malaysian fans.
“I also like food here like satay and nasi lemak. The fans here are also loving and welcoming,” he said.
