Penang has been chosen to host the “Olympics of the world’s information technology conferences” or the World Congress on IT (WCIT) 2022.
At the handover ceremony, WITSA awarded the rights to PIKOM during the closing ceremony of World Congress on IT (WCIT) 2021 in Bangladesh on Nov 14, 2021.
The event, which was also held on a virtual platform, was attended by Penang Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, PIKOM Chairman Danny Lee and MDEC CEO, Mahadhir Aziz.
This will be the 26th edition of the conference.
PIKOM Chairman Danny Lee expressed his appreciation to WITSA for the trust and confidence they have in the tech association.
“Malaysia last hosted WCIT in 2008 and was touted as the best WCIT ever. This has spurred more confidence for WITSA to award PIKOM another opportunity to host WCIT. Next year, Malaysia promises to deliver another exceptional experience for everyone in WCIT 2022. With the theme, Connecting and Transforming the World, WCIT 2022 will take centre stage for the tech world.” said Lee.
With WCIT 2022 Malaysia sets to be the gateway to Southeast Asia, a definitive and must-attend global event of technology businesses. WCIT2022 is organised in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) with Penang as the host city.
