A press conference was held at Komtar this morning to announce the 10th edition of the Malaysia International Miniature Hobby Show and Competition (MIMHS – MALCOM) 2025.

Last year’s event attracted over 20,000 visitors, and this year’s edition promises to be even bigger. The show will be held from June 14 to 15, 2025, at the ballroom of the St Giles Wembley Hotel in Penang.

The announcement was made by State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai, alongside Choo Huang Ming, organising chairman and founder of World Hobby Miniatures.

Open to the public from 10:00am to 5:30pm on both days, the event will bring together collectors, hobbyists, and enthusiasts from across Malaysia and abroad. As in past years, international participation continues to be a major highlight.

“The objective of this event is to celebrate ingenuity, precision craftsmanship, and camaraderie within the miniature modelling community. It also reflects the growing relevance of scale modelling in the cultural and creative industries,” said YB Wong.

Since its inception, MIMHS – MALCOM has become Southeast Asia’s premier miniature modelling event, earning acclaim alongside top international showcases such as: Moson Model Show (Hungary), Scale Model Challenge (Netherlands), AK Interactive International Competition (Thailand), Model World Saga (Guangzhou, China) and the Shizuoka Hobby Show (Japan)

As of late April, over 650 participants from five continents have registered to compete in this year’s edition. With additional walk-in registrations and mail-ins expected, the total number is projected to rise even further.

Over 80 model manufacturers, including many globally recognized brands, have confirmed attendance. The show will also welcome representatives from 10 international modelling associations, highlighting its deep global reach.

In total, participants, manufacturers, and judges will represent 24 countries and regions, including:
Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, the UK, the US, and Vietnam.

The two-day event will feature hands-on masterclasses by world-renowned model artists, covering:

  • Hand-painting
  • Airbrushing
  • Weathering
  • Diorama building
  • Model customization

These workshops offer attendees the chance to learn from the best in the field.

“Hosting high-caliber events like this is part of Penang’s strategic vision to promote Major Events Tourism and the Creative Economy. We aim to raise Penang’s global profile and position it as a hub of cultural and creative excellence,” Wong added.

Whether it’s Gundam, Star Wars, Warhammer 40,000, military miniatures, or elaborate dioramas, each model displayed is a unique creation — a testament to individual artistry and dedication.

Admission is free.
