The Festival of Taal 2023 edition will showcase 31 hours of non-stop bhajans with tabla recital.
The tabla performance and bhajan recitals will be held from Feb 18 to Feb 19, 2023.
They will attempt to make it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) to perform from 10am to 5pm the following day.
Some 500 participants and guests are expected to take part in the gathering at the Penang Thanneermalai Sri Balathandayuthapani Temple Compounds in Jalan Kebun Bunga.
The event is organised by the Penang Tabla Society. They have been promoting the performing arts of tabla and other classical Indian music by organizing classes, music events and music festivals.
Meanwhile, the Penang Tabla Society in 2015, hosted the “Largest & Longest Tabla” playing event at the Fort Cornwallis in conjunction with the Georgetown Festival then.
The colourful event also made it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).
The Penang Tabla Society is led by its chairman R, Sathiaseelan, assisted by Master Shakkteevel (Festival director), M. Suthaakar (Secretary), Prem Kumar Supramaniam (Head of Logistics) and their committee..
For the uninitiated, the tabla is a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent that are somewhat similar in shape to the bongos.
