Calling all Penang street food operators!
Here’s your chance to take part on an international stage at the Penang Street Food Festival 2.0 in Bangkok, Thailand.Due to popular demand, the Penang Street Food Festival will be held again in the city which is already burgeoning with tourists from all over the world on Saturday, May 4, 2024.
The event will be held at the Old Siam Plaza (outdoor) Tri Phet Road, Wang Burapa Phirom, Bangkok from 11am to 6pm.
The festival is brought together by Kelab Malaysia of Thailand and supported by the Embassy of Malaysia in Thailand.
As in previous years, the event will showcase popular Penang street food, cultural performances, cooking demonstrations and other activities. There will also be a dining area for visitors and customers to enjoy their food.
Among the popular food expected to be showcased are Char Kway Teow, Nasi Kandar, Pasembor, Assam Laksa, Mee Goreng Mamak, Kari Mee, Hokkein Mee, Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai, Rojak, Popiah, Karipap, Kueh Seri Muka among others. As for the drinks, Cendol, Teh Tarik and Sirap Bandung are popular beverages.
Malaysian handicrafts and food ingredients are also well received by locals and other visitors.
Entrance is free for guests and vendors are free to set their selling prices. However, vendors will have to have to pay Baht3,000 for the stall and also pay for their travel expenses.
“We would like to invite vendors from Penang to take up the stalls to sell Penang street food, drinks and other products.
“Vendors who are interested can email DS Wong at [email protected]”, said Dato Tai Chong Yih, president of Kelab Malaysia of Thailand.
Meanwhile, popular well-known food ambassador for Penang, Pearly Kee is also expected to make her presence at the food fair.
As a run-up to promote the festival, the Malaysian ambassador to Thailand, Datuk Jojie Samuel paid a courtesy call on the Chief Minister of Penang YAB Chow Kon Yeow to invite the chief minister to attend the gathering.
