The Malaysia Budget and Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) supports the Penang State Government for spearheading proactive initiatives to regulate short-term homestays in high-rise buildings.
Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin said the State Government is in the midst of drafting a guideline, harbouring hopes that the regulation can aid the recovery of budget and business hotels in the post-pandemic era.
“As compared to short-term homestays in high-rise buildings, hoteliers need to account for higher operational costs, including but not limited to taxes, proliferated electric and water bills, staff emolument etc.
“A proper regulation will not only solve social problems caused by short-term homestays in high-rise buildings, but more importantly, bring justice to the budget and business hotels,” Yeoh said in a press statement.
According to Yeoh, the Malaysia Budget and Business Hotel Association (MyBHA) national delegates during their courtesy call to him at the Penang State Legislative Assembly, praised the Penang State Government for its diligent support towards the battered tourism industry through various financial assistance and policies.
“With the shortage of labour pressing on the hotel industry, we will continue to explore ways to enhance business prospects and develop pragmatic policies,” he added.
Present at the courtesy call were National President Dato Emmy Suraya Hussein, National Deputy President Dr. Sri Ganesh Michiel, Perak Chapter Chairman Zamari Muhyi, Negeri Sembilan Chapter Chairman Suresh Armugam, Kedah and Perlis Chapter Chairman Dato’ Noorazly, and Penang Chapter Secretary Lau Eng Leong.
