Penang State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning, YB Jagdeep Singh Deo announced that the guidelines for short term residential stays have been approved by the state government.
“The new measures will be enforced by all agencies so as not to disrupt the housing schemes both high-rises and landed.
“This includes in principle most importantly the need for residents in such schemes approving such activities at an annual general meeting (AGM).
“To this regard, I am also glad to note the Housing Ministry has agreed to allocate two (2) additional Deputy Commissioners of Buildings to ensure all our housing schemes, especially stratified properties are protected.
“This is important as Penang has one of the highest numbers of property schemes, namely 1380, with some 236,907 units.
“We will also request to increase the number of enforcement officers,” said Jagdeep in his address during the Strata Management Seminar held at the Mercure Beach Penang in Tanjung Tokong.
Some 100 participants attended the seminar.
