In an effort to assist the recovery of the hospitality industry and theme parks, etc, a 6-month extension on hotel fee and entertainment tax waiver has been provided by the Penang State Government.
In announcing the waiver, Penang State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, YB Yeoh Soon Hin said that the benefit is effective January 1, 2022.
“This hotel fee waiver is applicable to all registered hotels in the state, whereas the entertainment tax waiver will benefit performing art spaces, theme parks, tourist attractions, cinemas as well as businesses and industries in the state that are imposed with entertainment tax.
“Both waivers will be effective for the duration of 6-months until 30 June 2022,” he said in a press statement.
He added that waivers as such are catalysts to hasten revitalisation of tourism economy, which is gradually gaining traction since the interstate borders are lifted.
“The revival of our tourism sector is amongst the areas of concern to the Penang State Government, we hope these waivers will somewhat help to stimulate the tourism market and drive demands,” he added.
