Penang is set to make sporting history as it hosts its very first international padel tournament, the Asia Pacific Padel Tournament – redONE Mobile Penang Open, taking place from tomorrow April 10 to 12,  2026 at PadelKu (in Pulau Tikus), the island’s first dedicated padel club.

Bringing together top regional and international players, the tournament marks a significant milestone not only for Penang but for Malaysia’s growing presence in one of the world’s fastest-rising sports.

A Sport on the Rise
Padel, a dynamic racquet sport that blends elements of tennis and squash, has seen explosive growth across Europe, the Middle East, and increasingly, Asia Pacific. Known for its accessibility, social nature, and fast-paced gameplay, padel is rapidly gaining traction among urban communities and active lifestyle enthusiasts.
According to the International Padel Federation, Asia Pacific region now counts 2.2 million active amateur players across 30 countries, with 4,600 courts and 1,700 clubs, marking a 20% year-on-year growth in 2025. Its global momentum continues to build, with the sport set to feature in the upcoming Asian Games in Japan—a clear signal of its rising prominence on the international stage.
