Home-grown talents comprising of influential leaders, business owners and dynamic entrepreneurs from the various industries were recognized in the “Penang Power 100” coffee table book.
The launching ceremony was held at The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang where some 100 guests gathered over lunch.
The project was initiated by the founder and president of CHTNetwork, Chng Huck Teng to feature stories of organizations and industries which drive and support Penang’s economy.
Among the sectors were industrial, manufacturing, medical, education, food and beverage, real estate, creative arts and more.
Representing Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy, Yeoh Soon Hin accompanied by State Exco for Trade, Industry and Entrepreneurial Development, Dato Abdul Halim Hussain.
“Penang has not been spared the wrath of the Covid-19 pandemic and we are all trying to pick up and live life as much normalcy as possible.
“It is time for Penang to rise again to show the world that we have survived the tough times. It is time to visit Penang, be it for holiday, stay, study or invest,” said Chng in his opening address.
Among the recipients included Dato Lee Teong Li (director of Amphenol TCS (M) Sdn Bhd) and chairman of the Malaysian of Malaysian Manufacturers (Penang Branch), K L Bock (senior vice president, Western Digital), Tony Goh (general manager, The Wembley – A St Giles Hotel, Penang), Dato Seri Lim Cheah Chooi (CEO, Unimech Group Bhd) and more.
Meanwhile, Yeoh in his speech added that the coffee table book project is commendable to feature dynamic, home-grown organizations and influential leaders.
“Penang remains steadfast and committed to achieve Vision Penang2030 for a family-focused Green and Smart that inspires the Nation.
“The four strategic initiatives in this vision are to increase liveability to enhance quality of life, upgrade the economy to raise household incomes, empower people to strengthen civic participation and invest in the built environment to improve resilience,” said Yeoh.
Other notable recipients were the Tropical Spice Garden, Ghee Hiang, Enthopia, Habitat, Hunza Group, Ideal Property Group, Asia Green Group, Penang Global Tourism, Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Setia Spice, Wisdom Woods and Island Hospital Penang.
