
The Penang Marriott Hotel, Marriott Executive Apartments Penang and Marriott Residences Penang welcomes its new Multi-Property General Manager – Adrian Chua with effect April 1, 2025.
Chua takes over from Subash Basrur, who recently retired after an illustrious 50-year career in the hospitality industry.
With over 30 years of experience, Adrian has built a distinguished career in hospitality, having worked with globally renowned brands such as Intercontinental Hotels Group and Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts.
His journey began in 1996 in food and beverage at the acclaimed Lafite French fine dining restaurant at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
In 2007, Adrian joined The Westin Kuala Lumpur as QBA Restaurant and Bar Manager, where he showcased his leadership and operational expertise. His career soon expanded internationally, where he played an integral role in the launch of the first Aloft in Asia Pacific outside North America – Aloft Beijing Haidian.
Over the next decade, he held senior leadership positions across multiple Marriott properties, including The Westin Kuala Lumpur, Four Points by Sheraton Beijing, Le Méridien Qingdao, Sheraton Xi’an, and The Westin Beijing Chaoyang.
Most recently, Adrian served as the General Manager of Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah, where he made a significant impact in enhancing guest experience and operational performance.
Chua was also honoured with the Malaysia’s Best General Managers (Hospitality) citation by CMO Asia last year.
Beyond his professional achievements, Adrian is an avid cyclist and enjoys exploring new culinary experiences.
