With the Hari Raya celebrations just around the corner, shopping malls in Penang have decked their main lobby / atrium with vibrant decorations to bring some form of normality despite the on-going pandemic.
The Sunway Carnival Mall invites shoppers with an idyllic kampung setting at its main concourse while celebrating the Raya season with amazing festive redemption and performances until May 23, 2021.
Besides, shoppers can look forward to having memorable moments with their loved ones in the mall while relishing the festive atmosphere and performances available on weekends such as Malay Traditional Dance, Angklung Music and Gamelan.
Although the pandemic has changed the way we celebrate major festivals, one thing that will always remain unchanged is the love between family members. So, send some festive goodies available at the FAMA booths located on the Upper Ground Floor for a kind gesture or thoughtful deed.
Also, help others in need during this festive season by getting one of the Upcycle Raya Pouches for RM10; made and sewn by the B40 women community.
All proceeds will be channeled to the B40 communities in Seberang Jaya area, in collaboration with state exco Phee Boon Poh.
Over at the Gurney Plaza, their main atrium has been turned into a Moroccan Summer Palace setting with warm earth tone colours in green, blue and beige.
The architecture and setting is filled with intricate details on the walls of the Moroccan Summer Palace.
Along with this, shoppers can partake in the “Gaya Raya Shop & Win Rewards” and Hari Raya packets and face masks as redemptions.
The neighbouring Gurney Paragon Mall has set up a Ramadan bazaar for shoppers to choose their baju Melayu, dresses and even raya cookies.
They have adorned their atrium area with flowing decorations depicting the raya mood.
Meanwhile, at the Straits Quay, shoppers and visitors are in for a “Batik-Batik Raya”.
From now until June 13, the seafront retail marina will be adorned with beautiful deco featuring colourful batik motifs.
The vibrant batik colours injected the festive ambiance, creating beautiful Insta-worthy backdrops for celebrants.
“Throughout the festive period, shoppers can feast their eyes on the charming batik prints and patterns as they learn more about the local art form depicting Malaysia’s culture and heritage,” said Straits Quay marketing manager Gillian Tan.
Art and craft lovers are invited to join either one of the three Raya workshops available to learn and create their own decorative items and deck their home in style this Raya.
They are the Raya-stained glass decorating workshop on Apr 24, ketupat weaving on May 1 and Batik painting on May 8.
Each workshop is limited to only 15 participants per session on a first-come-first-served basis, with strict adherence to the government’s SOPs and guidelines. Pre-registration is required.
