In conjunction with “Hari Penjaja Dan Komuniti 2024”, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) presented awards to recognise outstanding premises for their clean and excellent premises recently.
Three hotels were recognised for their eateries being selected for the “Restaurant in Hotel” category.
Among them were the Lone Pine Penang, A Tribute Portfolio Resort (Bungalow), Penang Marriott Hotel and the Parkroyal Penang Resort.
Lending presence to the occasion was the Deputy Finance Minister YB Lim Hui Ying.
Also present was the State Exco for Local Government and Town and Country Planning, YB Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Penang Mayor Dato A Rajendran, Komtar assemblyman, YB Teh Lai Heng, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman, YB Wong Yuee Harng, heads of departments among others.
The Lone Pine Penang was represented by its cluster general manager Dato Gulab Mahatam Rai who was on hand to receive the award.
He expressed his delight at receiving the award by MBPP and conveyed his gratitude to the organisers and judges.
“I am sure that this recognition will further motivate our team to excel and strive for more awards”, he said.
In her address, Lim who is also the Member of Parliament for Tanjong, highlighted the role of hawkers in Penang which is a food haven and its economy and tourism.
“They play an important role and we are committed to assist in any way we can. The federal government is also mindful of their role and extends any form of assistance to further support small businesses.
“We want to ensure that small businesses are vibrant and grow the local economy. Local councils like the Penang Island City Council and the hawker association should work together to further improve the competitiveness of the industry.
“The federal government is also committed to ensure that Penang leads in the semiconductor field with the launch of the Penang Silicon Design @5km+ by the Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently to allocate the RM50 million incentive.
“We not only make semiconductors but also excel in the design of these chips which are utilized all over the world”, she said adding that the sector offers job and investment opportunities indirectly supporting small businesses too.
