Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak officiated the launch of the 22nd PSC-Cheetah International Soccer 7’s tournament 2023 earlier this morning.
Also present was State Exco for Youth & Sports YB Soon Lip Chee along with organising chairman Dr S. Pandiraja and advisors Dr Shankar, Pathumanathan, Michael Lim among others.
Others present were PSC president Lee Aun Tiang, Choo Chee Woon, Cheetah Sales Director, Tony Singh, Director of Weston Corporation and Sherman WT Tan, Carlsberg Senior Sales Manager.
The tournament is making its comeback after the hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns.
Some 56 teams from Australia, China, India, South Africa, Brunei, Maldives, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sabah, Sarawak, Negeri Sembilan, Johore, Kuala Lumpur/Selangor, Malacca and Penang will take part.
Tun Ahmad Fuzi performed the ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the opening and also presented souvenirs to all the captains of the teams.
Earlier, PSC also presented football gear to three schools in the island and also presented a donation of RM3,250 to the House of Hope as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
Tun Ahmad Fuzi also took time to pose for the camera with all of the team captains and the organising committee.
Among the well-known local players are Datuk Wira Soh Chin Aun, Datuk Santokh Singh, Vincent Thambiraja, Zainal Abidin, Khalid Ali, Alen Bijkusa, Thoon Chee Eng, Rukumaran as well as Suriamurthi, Sundramoorthy, K. Kanan from Singapore.
Participants will be hosted to a gala dinner at the PSC tonight. The finals will be held tomorrow.
