The Governor of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has taken the bold initiative to plant one million trees in the state in conjunction with World Earth Day 2024.

The official launch ceremony for the project dubbed “Planting One Million Trees Within a Day” was held at Seri Mutiara, the official residence of the Governor.

Earth Day falls on April 22, 2024.

In his address, Chow hailed the project as a daring and brave project initiated by the Governor of Penang.

“This initiative will greatly benefit biodiversity and also mitigate the impact of climate change which is also in line with the state’s policy of cleaner, greener efforts.

“I am sure that the involvement of the community, private and corporate sector will provide the right synergy to achieve the noble aims of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Development Goal 11 (SDG 11) for the country.

“Penang will become the first state to embark on this project and will serve as an inspiration to the whole country. Thus, this initiative will put Penang on the world stage as far as green initiatives are concerned,” added Chow.

Chow also added that the green project will also help overcome global warming effects and also safeguard Mother Nature.
