The Governor of Penang Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak graced the official opening of the Northern Heart Hospital Penang.
It is the first and only heart hospital in the Northern region.
The governor performed the ribbon cutting ceremony and was also taken on a brief tour of the facilities.
Present was the chairman of the Northern Heart Hospital (NHH), YAM Tunku Besar Seri Menanti Tunku Ali Redhauddin ibni Tuanku Muhriz, Dr Tan Chiang Soo, Consultant Surgeon and Person-in-Charge NHH among other surgeons and staff members.
Representing the Penang Chief Minister was the State Exco for Youth, Sports and Health YB Daniel Gooi along with the State Exco for Housing and Environment Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu among others.
Gooi highlighted that Penang contributes to 45% of the country’s overall medical tourism industry.
“The launch of the Northern Heart Hospital marks a significant step forward in elevating cardiovascular care for Penang and Malaysia. The hospital not only strengthens our capacity to address complex cardiac conditions for Malaysians but also enhances Penang’s reputation as a leading destination for medical tourism.
“By combining cutting-edge medical expertise with the state;s renowned hospitality, we are also attracting patients from around the region, solidifying our position as a healthcare hub in Southeast Asia.
“Advance equipment including the first Hybrid Operating Theatre in the Northern Region, cutting-edge diagnostic tools and minimally invasive technologies, further enhance treatment precision. With a strong focus on improving patient outcomes, the hospital aims for early intervention, faster recoveries and a better quality of life for patients”, he said in his speech at the St Giles Wembley Hotel here.
Earlier, Dr Tan shared that since its soft opening in June 2024, NHH has served approximately 14,000 patients and carries out over 600 procedures todate.
“Our team comprises highly skilled specialists proficient in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease treatment, complex surgery procedures, electrophysiology interventions, heart and lung surgeries and comprehensive vascular and endovascular therapies.
“Our depth of expertise enables patients to receive cutting-edge, high-quality care tailored to their needs”, he added.
NHH is already attracting patients from Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand too. It is part of Asia OneHealthCare Sdn Bhd formerly Columbia Asia Healthcare Sdn Bhd.
