In keeping with his annual tradition of providing assistance for school going children in the new semester,  Penang Deputy Chief Minister II YB Jagdeep Singh Deo handed out vouchers to some 500 children in Komtar earliervtoday.

The vouchers are meant to help these students from underprivileged families to buy their school bags, uniforms and shoes.

“I have started this tradition from 2008 for 500 school children from my constituency. And I will continue this programme without any hindrance.

“The most important thing to start our career is education. I am reminded of my father’s advice to pursue my education although he was detained under the ISA in the Taiping prison.

“That is when I applied for a scholarship and went for my education in law. After serving in the state government in various Exco positions, I never thought I would be the Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang”, shared Jagdeep.

To-date his office has contributed up to RM700,000 towards the commendable cause.

Participating in the corporate social responsibility project was Persatuan Kaum India (PKI Macallum) 

Also present was local businessman and advisor for PKI, Dato Rethinam Pillay along with  parents and well-wishers. 

The new school term semester starts February 17, 2025.
