Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow called on the federal government again to assist in resources like manpower, vaccines and equipment in view of rising cases in Penang.
“The new health minister must arrange for more healthcare staff from less affected states to be assigned to Penang’s government hospitals.
“He should also send out a directive for private hospitals here to set aside 30% of their beds for Covid-19 cases.
“This will help take away pressure on govt hospitals
“As a mitigation process, hospitals are increasing wards and focused on cutting down deaths so as to save the healthcare system from collapsing,” said Chow in a press conference at Komtar,
He also added that the last two weeks have put pressure on local medical services.
“We are also discussing with hotels for a low risk quarantine centre. So far state govt spent RM180 million to set up various facilities to fight covid-19, he added.
