In keeping with the state government’s policy of an inclusive society, Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow made time to attend the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme organised by the Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society this morning.

The Che Hoon Khor Society presented ang pow packets and aid to some 2,500 recipients and including several non-governmental organisations (NGO).

Among them were the Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Persekutuan, Sekolah Menengah Pendidikan Khas Persekutuan, Persekutuan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Lelaki Islam Pulau Pinang, Persekutuan Kebajikan Anak-anak Yatim Perempuan Islam Pulau Pinang, Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Terencat Akal Pulau Pinang, St. Nicholas Home Penang, Pusat Kanak-kanak Istimewa Pulau Pinang, The Ramakrishna Ashrama, Eden Handicap Service Centre Bhd, Penang Cheshire Home and The Spastic Children’s Association of Penang.

In his address, Chow highlighted that the state government has spent RM413 million for welfare of the needy community since taking office.

“The excitement and smiles on the faces of the recipients has once again touched the hearts and reminded them that no one is left behind in our society no matter how challenging the circumstances are.

“I also commend the Che Hoon Khor for their honourable effort to assist the needy and underprivileged community. By staying true to your guiding principles and with your tireless commitment, not only are elderly and special needs individuals who are receiving angpows but also a total of 11 welfare or charitable homes are also receiving aid from your welfare fund.

“Although it has been almost three years since the pandemic first hit us, its impact can still be felt especially by voluntary welfare organizations which depend heavily on corporate bodies and kind individuals for financial support,” said Chow.

He also added that the *LovePenang* Campaign launched in June last year with the purpose to embrace what we hold dear, to help out one another and to reinvigorate our community again.  It is also a call to all of us to deliver the spirit of unity, regardless of race and religion.

Also present was Dato Sim Ah Chye, president of the Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society Penang and his committee members.
