Members of Penang Club along Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah celebrated Vaisakhi with a fine dinner where some 150 guests gathered.
The harvest festival is also observed by other Indian cultures and diaspora.
Guest of honour was YB Yeoh Soon Hin who is the State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy. Also present was the deputy speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, Dato Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah.
Club president Dato Malkit Singh and his committee were on hand to welcome their guests.
In his address Yeoh said that he is honoured to be invited by the Penang Club to celebrate Vaisakhi.
“Vaisakhi is an important occasion for Sikhs to celebrate their faith, culture, and values while promoting unity and solidarity.
“Malaysia is a diverse country and hence unity and solidarity have been the watchwords of the Penang State Government.
“We have always put the people’s welfare first in pursuing high-quality social and economic development. We will continue to build bridges with the community and together take Penang to greater heights,” said Yeoh.
A fashion show was also the highlight of the wonderful evening.
In his address, Dato Malkit applauded the management and staff of the Penang Club for their hard work and dedication for making them one of the premier private clubs in the country..
Meanwhile, guests were hosted to a sumptuous dinner spread consisting of local favourites along with desserts. There was even a dance session with many taking to the dance floor.
