As the Lunar New Year ushered in the auspicious Year of the Horse, the historic Penang Club marked the festive season with a grand celebratory dinner steeped in tradition and camaraderie.
Founded in 1868, the Penang Club proudly holds the distinction of being the oldest private membership club in Malaysia.
For over 150 years, it has stood as a cornerstone of Penang’s social and sporting life, bringing together generations of members within its storied grounds. This rich legacy added significance to the evening’s celebration, blending time-honoured heritage with vibrant Lunar New Year customs.
Members and their families gathered in a spirit of reunion to welcome prosperity, good fortune and renewed beginnings.

Guests were treated to a sumptuous festive dinner, symbolising abundance and togetherness, while the lively rhythms of drums and cymbals heralded the arrival of the lion and dragon dance troupes.
Their energetic performances, weaving through the dining room in a dazzling display of colour and movement, filled the clubhouse with blessings for the year ahead.
The evening’s programme also featured a five-piece live band performing nostalgic oldies and sentimental favourites, creating a warm and convivial atmosphere as members dined and reminisced.

Committee members were present alongside fellow members and their loved ones, reflecting the close-knit community spirit that has defined the club for more than a century.
As night fell, a spectacular fireworks display lit up the club grounds, drawing cheers from the crowd and symbolically ushering in a bright and prosperous new year.
Against the backdrop of one of Malaysia’s most storied institutions, guests took the opportunity to mingle, renew friendships and forge new connections, thus continuing a tradition of fellowship that has endured since 1868.
