The Penang Governor’s 92 year-old former teacher performed a rendition of songs on his harmonica at the High School Bukit Mertajam Governor’s Day & 96th Alumni Reunion Dinner 2023 at Butterworth Arena.
English teacher, Mr Ng Soo Chye was among the teachers at HSBM in the year 1958 and 1960s.
Ng’s rendition was much to the delight and appreciated by the ex-students and guests who offered a round of loud round of applause.

Some 400 old boys of the school attended the grand occasion graced by Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak which also offered a chance to mix and mingle session.
Meanwhile, guests had a gala time catching time with their classmates and reminiscing about the good old days at the dinner.
There were lucky draws and raffles which offered attractive prizes for lucky winners. Guests are served a Chinese course dinner along with a live band performance too.
Proceeds from the dinner will be in aid of the HSBM Student’s Welfare Fund.

Organising chairman Dato Aloysius Gasper said that the gathering was a successful gathering and hoped to meet up next year. Plans are also underway for their centennial celebrations too.
He was assisted by co-organising chairman Sivanandan, John Gary Lee, Benny Poh, Liew Wen Teik, Eusoff and Sundresan.
