Another video to showcase the attractions and highlights in Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang was launched recently (April 12) as part of Penang State Government’s initiatives to revive the tourism industry.
State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin was joined by Penang Global Tourism (PGT) chief executive officer, Ooi Chok Yan.
Also present at the ceremony held at the Lexis Suites Penang was the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Penang Director Jonathan Freddy Bagang and Tourism Malaysia Northern Region Deputy Director Siti Hajar Yunus.
“This video campaign is dubbed “The Other Side of the Island – Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang”.
“Penang’s vibrant and lively tourism landscape is made-up of many components, such as George Town’s heritage enclave, our internationally acclaimed street food and the resort-living lifestyle filled with sandy beaches.
“However, often laying low and flying under the radar are our natural assets and eco-tourism products, many of which are strategically situated in “The Other Side of the Island – Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang”, said Yeoh in his speech.
He added that as Malaysia reopens our borders, we are eager to showcase a new, fun and distinctive way to experience Penang. In doing so, we need to look into the quality of tourism. This means moving away from mass tourism with low expenditure per person, to quality tourists with high per capita spending and better behaviour.
“The goal to boost higher per capita spending can be achieved through the diversification of tourism products. This is, in fact, already proposed in the Penang Tourism Master Plan.
“We believe Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang offer unique experiences which will be on par with other parts of Penang. With more tourists visiting these peripheral areas, we can also spread the economic impacts of tourism to second-tier areas, while addressing the overconcentration of tourists in the inner city of George Town. This will ensure a balanced and sustainable economic growth for our industry players, leading towards tourism sustenance in general,” added Yeoh.
Following the address, the wonderful video showcased the unique experiences in Balik Pulau and Teluk Bahang.
Yesterday, another video to promote Seberang Perai was also launched to promote Tourism on the mainland.
“These initiatives are not just a testament to our dedication to reinstate tourism as an economic powerhouse but are also an example of our unwavering commitment to lead and inspire the nation. I hope through these aggressive marketing campaigns, coupled with Penang’s active presence in the advertising spaces will lead to positive numbers and drive even tourism traffic to all areas and districts in the state.
Among the major attractions at these locations are the Entopia, Escape Theme Park, Boulder Valley, Container Art among others.
Also present was Ben Ho, general manager of Lexis Suites Penang, MATTA Penang Chapter chairman Vergis Mathews and R. Nagaswaran (GM Boulder Valley) among others.
