MICCI Northern hosted its CNY and Hari Raya network luncheon at the G Hotel here. The gathering saw a good turnout of members and guests from across the various industries.

Guest of honour was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow who was welcomed by Dato Brian Tan, Chairman of MICCI Penang and Northern Branch.

Also present was the Consul General of The Republic of China, HE Mr Zhou Youbin, Consul General of Japan, HE Mr Shinya Machida, Consul General of Bangladesh in Penang, Datuk Shaik, Consul General of Thailand in Penang, HE Mr Psusit Wongsurawat, Dato’ Seri Nazir Ariff, Past Chairman of MICCI Northern among others.

In his opening speech Chow highlighted that the gathering is meaningful as we celebrate two joyous occasions—Chinese New Year and Hari Raya Aidilfitri. 

“These celebrations reflect the essence of Malaysia: a nation built on unity in diversity.Penang takes great pride in this diversity.

“Looking back to 2025 on what we have achieved, Penang continues to be at the forefront of high-value manufacturing and to reinforce its reputation as the Silicon Valley of the East.

“On the investment front, in 2025, Penang recorded a total approved manufacturing investment of RM22.4 billion, a 29 percent increase from 2024. Notably, 68 percent of the total comprised foreign direct investments, reflecting continued confidence from global investors in Penang’s strong industrial ecosystem,” said Chow.

He also  highlighted that the E&E sector remains the key driver of the manufacturing landscape, attracting RM11.3 billion in investments, which accounted for more than half of the total approved manufacturing investments for the year.

“In terms of trade, Penang continues to be the top exporting state in the nation. In 2025, Penang recorded RM574.1 billion in exports, contributing 36 percent of the nation’s total exports,” added Chow.

Meanwhile, Tan expressed his deepest appreciation to the Chief Minister for graciously joining them for the luncheon.
