It was an evening of fellowship and camaraderie when the Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau ( PCEB) held its networking gathering among the medical fraternity recently.
The event was held at the Cheah Kongsi where some 50 doctors and their spouses gathered.
Lending support to the gathering was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Yeoh Soon Hin accompanied by PCEB chief executive officer Ashwin Gunasekeran and his team.
Also present was the director for the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Penang director Jonathan Freddy Bagang, MAH national vice president Dato Khoo Boo Lim, MAH Penang VP Kevin Cheah among others.
Also present was representatives from the airline industry, namely, Airasia North director, Ken Tan and MAS Area Manager (North) Lisa Wong.
As guests started to mingle and get to know each other, they were hosted to fine hawker fare offering local favourites like laksa, Char koay teow, nasi kandar, lamb roast, chendol, satay, rojak and many more dishes.
They were also given a slide presentation on medical tourism and initiatives to promote the industry.
“As medical tourism is one of the economic drivers for the state’s economy, it is vital for us to ensure that the various hospitals and specialist centres receive the support from the state government,” said Yeoh.
Some of the hospitals catering for medical tourism in Penang are the Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH), Island Hospital, Loh Guan Lye, Lam Wah Ee Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and Pantai Hospital.
