In conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, one of the oldest bakeries in Georgetown, Maliia Bakery carried out a corporate social responsibility initiative.
They distributed some 200 food baskets to members of the B40 group ranging from all races.
Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow was on hand along with the proprietor of the bakery Dato Mariadass Gopal to hand out the food aid.
The recipient also received duit raya.
“We have been carrying out this charitable deed for the past 17 years, however due to the Covid-19 pandemic we could not carry out the charity project.
“The chief minister has been supportive of this project and always makes it a point to attend personally,” added Gopal.
The total investment for the CSR was RM24,000.
During the ceremony, Mariadass also made a personal donation of RM20,000 donation towards the building fund of the Penang Indian Association (PIA).
