The Malaysian International Travel Mart (MITM) organised by the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association is currently taking place at the Spice Arena in Bayan Lepas here.
Present to launch the event was the Penang caretaker government’s committee chairman for Tourism and Creative Economy, Mr Yeoh Soon Hin.
Also present was organising chairman Edwin Tan, organising chairman MCTA national president Paul Paw, Penang MATTA chairman Ms Carolyn Leong, Ms Lisa Wong (MAS), representatives from the cruise and airline industry among others.
Yeoh congratulated MCTA on hosting the mart and expressed his pleasure in seeing many participants from various states.
“MITM is a mega marketplace for different segments of tourism players to display and offer their attractive affordable packages and promotions especially targeted for consumers’ travel.
“I understand that this year, MITM Travel Fair is expecting a total of 36 exhibitors and 207 exhibition booths. The two days travel fair is expected to attract 15,000 visitors,” said Yeoh.
He added that the event will promote Malaysia as a tourist destination and present ourselves as an attractive and secure tourism market for both local and foreign visitors.
“The Penang state government has always been actively encouraging investments in infrastructure and tourism market development. These actions present a good opportunity for our industry players to increase sales and find a strategic foothold to grow globally,” he added.
Yeoh also shared that Penang aims to be a major player to the tourism and economic growth by enhancing our tourism offerings to strengthen Malaysia as a multi-faceted and multi-destination country.
Yeoh later joined hands to launch the fair and also toured the different booths.
