“Made In Penang” (MIP) will be the new brand name to generate alternative income streams for the state’s creative ecosystem.
“Penang’s strong endowments of cultural, heritage and artists assets can be capitalised to open up new income sources for creative players.
“Penang is not short of outstanding local products, all we need it a streamlined chain with better branding and stronger marketing,” said state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy Yeoh Soon Hin on his visit to Jetty35 to inspect its compliance of health protocols.
“It excites me knowing that local artisans and creative players are in favour of the idea, and has in fact initiated their own efforts to align to this vision,” he said.
Yeoh also welcomed the lifting of interstate borders as announced by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri in his special address on Sunday,
“It is good news after a long hiatus, and will help recover the staggering losses of the tourism and creative industries in the next three months.
“I also hope that tourists visiting Penang will experience art and cultural tourism. We are more than just our food.
“Ideally, MIP sets out to be a homegrown Penang-label that is made locally, celebrated globally,” he added.
