The Penang International Airport (PIA) received two inaugural flights earlier today.
This is surely a boost for domestic tourism and also Penang’s medical tourism.
MYAirline made its inaugural flight from KLIA2 to the PIA, landing around 1pm with the customary water salute welcome.
This is their first destination in the Northern Region of Malaysia.
Present was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow, MYAirline chief executive officer, Rayner Teo, Penang Global Tourism CEO, Ooi Chok Yan and Tourism Malaysia Northern Region deputy director, Siti Hajar among others.
“We are happy to welcome MYAirline to Penang and it is a good sign for tourism. I am happy to note that the PIA achieved 3.64 million passengers at the end of November 2022. This is against 356,00 passengers in 2021 due to the pandemic,” said Chow in a brief press conference.
Meanwhile, Teo said that since their start of operations early this month, they already have flights to Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Langkawi, Kota Bharu, Sibu, Tawau and Miri.
“We will also look into second tier cities like Alor Star in the coming future. As for international routes, we are looking at neighbouring countries like Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam at the end of the first quarter nest year (2023),” said Teo.
Commenting on their rates for their flight tickets, he added that they will always make it affordable for travellers.
“Presently, we are flying daily to Penang and hope to make it three flights a day,” shared Teo.
With a load factor of over 85% since its launch in Dec 1, 2022, MYAirline will surely give a run for their money to other Low Cost Carriers (LCC).
Meanwhile, Batik Airlines also made its inaugural flight from Banda Acheh to Penang today.
Flight ID 6698 Boeing 737-800 will fly three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
