Seasoned hotelier, Khoo Boo Lim was honoured in conjunction with the 73rd birthday celebrations of the Governor of Penang, Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak.
He will be bestowed with the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) which carries the title of “Dato”.
In announcing the awards list, state speaker Law Choo Kiang said that the state honours will be presented to some 1,380 people over the next four days.
Currently, Khoo is the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH National) vice president.
Khoo was also the MAH Penang Chapter Chairman for three terms from 2015 – 2021.
Later he became the Vice President of MAH National Board from 2020 – 2022 (till now).
He is also the Penang Socio Economy Recovery Consultative Council (PSERCC)
Committee member for Tourism sector (appointed by CM Penang in May 2020).
Pursuing his keen interest in the culinary scene, he was the international Wine & Food Society Penang Chapter, 2009 – 2010: Hon. Treasurer and 2011 – 2012: Vice President.
He also dabbled in writing when he was the food columnist for the Where 2 Magazine (Publication on Travel, Food & Entertainment) column under the name YB’s Choice for topics mostly on Penang Street food vendors.
The former St Xavier’s Institution student is currently a member of SXI Board of Governors – Finance section.
He completed Executive Master of Business Administration at Disted Sowers College and is a certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) in 2016 from American Hotel & Lodging Association.
In sports, he is a keen Liverpool Football Club follower and has also played for Chinese Wanderers Football Club in the Penang local league and later became the club Hon. Secretary.
Khoo had served the Football Association of Penang (FAP) as a Special Executive Committee in 2017.
Meanwhile, another hotelier, Michelle Ann Richards who is the general manager of the Haliconia Hotel have been awarded the Pingat Kelakuan Terpuji (PKT) award too.
