In line with the pilot travel bubble for international tourists which comes into effect today in Langkawi, the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) held a press conference to announce that foreign tourists are required to stay for a minimum of seven days before travelling to a mainland destination.
LADA chief executive officer, Nasaruddin Abdul Mutalib added that the pilot travel bubble project is in line with the federal government’s decision to allow foreign tourists to the holiday island.
“Otherwise, those foreign tourists who visit only Langkawi Island will only need to stay for three (3) days only.
Langkawi island had earlier opened to local visitors from Sept 16 under the travel bubble project.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Kedah / Perlis) MAH welcomes this move as its a step to reduce the risk of infections among the rakyat.
“From a business view point, tourists staying seven days will help with the people’s economy. Not only hotels will benefit but local restaurant, tourism product operators and even retail shops,” said MAH Kedah/ Perlis chairman Eugene Dass.
He also added that most of the hotels have spent a lot of money on safety equipment and training to ensure the safety and health of the visitors and holiday makers to Langkawi.
“Having foreigners come to Langakwi is a positive way forward towards recovery of the industry overall,” said Dass.
However, he also reminded all visitors to follow the SOPs implemented.
