The High Commission of Canada, in partnership with the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC), is providing RM150,000 in critical assistance to flood-affected communities in Terengganu, Kelantan and Kedah.
Canada’s funding specifically supports the Back-to-School program to ensure students can continue their education without additional financial burdens.
This initiative is part of a larger humanitarian relief effort led by MRC, supported by Canada and other corporate and international donors. In total, pooled funding will provide direct financial aid to 3,000 households in the hardest-hit districts—including Setiu, Kemaman, Hulu Terengganu, Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kubang Pasu, and Alor Setar—to assist with their overall recovery.
“Education should not be disrupted by natural disasters. Canada is committed to ensuring that children can return to school with the resources they need. Through this initiative, we stand in solidarity with the affected communities, supporting both immediate relief and long-term resilience.” siad Her Excellency Jodi Robinson, High Commissioner of Canada to Malaysia.
Each eligible household will receive RM350 in cash transferred directly to their bank accounts, RM350 in cash vouchers redeemable for essential household and cleaning supplies, as well as an additional RM200 in cash vouchers for families with school-going children.
In total, each household will receive RM700, while families with school-going children will receive RM900 in assistance.
Beyond financial aid, the program includes community-based recovery initiatives such as mass cleaning campaigns to restore public spaces, distribution of water filters and jerry cans to improve disaster preparedness, and water treatment training to help communities access clean water during emergencies.
