As early as March next year, members of the public can look forward to enjoy the facilities at the Gurney Wharf.
The first phase of the project measuring some 27.53 acres will offer a playground, skatepark, open car parks, South vantage point, public toilets, various kiosks and an expressway reserve.
State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo was on his tour to inspect the progress being made at the site.
“Despite the project being delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic we are confident to deliver the facilities to the public.
“This project encompasses 101.8 acres which is divided into two priorities, which are Priority 1 (27.53 acres) and Priority 2 (87.82 acres). For Priority 1, we have facilities such as the playground, skatepark, open car parks, south vantage point, toilet, kiosks, and expressway reserve.
“Meanwhile, for Priority 2, will have facilities such as the hawker centre, multilevel carpark, north vantage point, toilet, water taxi jetty, government reserve, beach and broadwalk, water garden and open carpark.
“We are firm to ensure the delivery of the project, where Priority 1 will be by March 2023 and Priority 2 will be by October 2024,” said Jagdeep who was accompanied by consultants and contractors.
He also thanked all participants who had provided constructive feedback for the project for ensuring that it is realised for the people of Penang.
