Popular shopping mall, Gurney Plaza, launched its Chocolate & Coffee Festival and Happiness Project for shoppers to wander and spend quality time with their family and friends.

The dual celebration is being held from July 4 to July 7 at its ground floor, extension wing, while the latter from July 5 and July 6 at its outdoor amphitheatre.

There are 11 booths offering chocolates and coffee creations. As for the “Happiness Market”, 13 artisan booths to showcase handcrafted products, art and lifestyle items.

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of interactive activities including  a Kombi photo booth, reading corners, tote bag workshop, bubble station, clown entertainment, live band, ukulele performance and many more.

Present to launch the ceremony was State Exco for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai who was welcomed by the mall’s general manager Peter Chan and his team.

In his address, Wong said that through this festival, they hope to offer everyone a chance to slow down and rediscover the beauty and warmth of life, guided by aroma, united by taste.

“There is a series of exciting, coffee and chocolate related activities that will be held right here, promising four full days of immersion and discovery. Among the highlights are: Signature Coffee Creation and Tasting Experience – a journey into the craftsmanship behind coffee brewing; Latte Art Expression with Coffee, Chocolate, and Matcha – an artistic showcase blending aroma and aesthetics; Drip Pro Coffee Brewing Experience – a hands-on immersion into the world of slow-brewed coffee for enthusiasts.

“Coffee, a beverage that awakens and uplifts, has long been a daily companion to many Malaysians. Chocolate, smooth, sweet, and comforting, represents warmth, affection, and celebration.

“For Malaysians, especially the Generation Y and Z born in the 1980s and 1990s, coffee is more than just a beverage; it’s a lifestyle,” said Wong.

He added that when it comes to coffee culture, Penang stands proud.

“As travel habits evolve, café hopping has become a top activity among modern-day explorers. In this respect, Penang is second to none, outshining even regional coffee culture giants like Thailand and Vietnam.

“Here in Penang, whether it’s a stylish café nestled in a heritage shophouse in George Town, or a serene coffee hideaway tucked amidst the greenery of Penang Hill, each venue offers a unique charm. Every café here tells a story, blending local culture, artisanal food, visual design, and heartfelt hospitality, which offers not just a cup of coffee, but an experience steeped in soul and storytelling,” added Wong.

Gurney Plaza invites everyone to join the fun and feel the joy and positive vibes in the air.
