With 91 per cent of the work being completed at the Gurney Bay recreational area, it is expected to be opened by the end of this month.

On hand to perform a site inspection and its progress was caretaker government’s committee chairman Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.

He was accompanied by Penang Island City Council Mayor Dato A Rajendran along with the general manager of Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) Datin S Barathi along with contractors and JKR representatives.

“Gurney Bay will be an icon in Malaysia and it is for the peopleĀ of Penang and our future generations. It will be among the biggest recreational parks in the country.

“Work is being doneĀ round the clock to get the recreational park to be open. Among them are landscaping work like planting of trees and grass.

“The car park in this area is already done and we are working on other features for the safety and security of visitors.

“However, we cannot fight Mother Nature as the weather has been unpredictable. We will endeavour to get the job done. I am also monitoring this project every day,” emphasised Jagdeep during the site visit.

The Gurney Bay project is also part of the state’s green agenda where some 10,000 trees will be planted at the location.
