Great news for commuters on the Penang ferries.
Penang state Exco for Infrastructure and Transport, Zairil Khir Johari said that commuters can cross the channel for free from July 1.
“We will absorb the ticket charges for all passengers on the ferry from July 1 till December 2021.
“The move is following the My30 pas implemented from March 31. Passengers will only have to show their MyKad/IC to enjoy free services.
“We estimate that the state will pay some RM78,000 for some 65,000 tickets a month. Total allocation will be around RM468,000.
“We hope that through this free services for ferries, it will help alleviate the cost of living and hardship of the Penang folk during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Zairil in a press statement.
