Good news for residents in Bukit Mertajam.
They will soon have a new upgraded market to replace the market which got damaged in a fire in 2014.
Bearing this welcome news was the Ministry of Local Government Development, YB Nga Kor Ming.
An allocation of RM23 million has been approved for this purpose. Another RM1 million will be put aside to organise a designing contest for the market.
Accompanying the minister was State Exco for Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning YB Jagdeep Singh Deo.
Nga also went around to meet some of the traders still operating at the market.
“We move forward. A new era of fresh air with collaboration with our Federal Government. After having met our Housing Minister Nga Kor Ming just several weeks ago, he has graciously come to visit Penang with much good news.
Among them include the delivery of more affordable housing which we have been focusing on. We have also offered some 72.3 acres of land to the federal government to build People’s Housing Projects.
“The rebuilding of the Bukit Mertajam market is another project with a budget of RM23 million, and another RM1 million being allocated for a design competition initially;
“Other programmes include the smart city initiatives and ensuring connectivity with fiberization for units of People’s Housing schemes along with increasing our proactiveness in combating climate crisis with our continuous programmes such as tree planting, green spaces at all areas including back lanes,” added Jagdeep.
