A bevy of beauties took to the stage at the Gurney Plaza recently in conjunction with the George Town Fashion Week 2023.

Present to witness the show was Penang caretaker government’s committee chairman for Tourism and Creative Economy, Mr Yeoh Soon Hin along with fashion show coordinator Ivan Choo and Peter Chan of Gurney Plaza management team.

In his address, Yeoh emphasised that fashion is an important part of our society and contributes to the creative economy industry.

“I also want to congratulate Velvet Signature for organizing this event at Gurney Plaza Mall. As we can see, Milan, Paris, Berlin and Tokyo, all these fashion capitals benefit from the fashion industry. The influx of tourists during fashion-related events drive their tourism economy, showing the significance of supporting this industry in our state.

“This Fashion Week provides a platform for fashion industry players to showcase their talents, but it also puts Penang on the world map while creating more business and job opportunities for Penang.

“Apart from showcasing our cultural heritage, the fashion industry will also enhance Penang’s reputation as a regional fashion hub and breathe new life into our industry. It is also my hope that one day we can brand Penang as the Milan of South East Asia, where all the happening of fashion will take place in Penang,” said Yeoh.

He also added that this Fashion Week also plays a crucial role in developing our local talents and helping them gain international recognition.

The show also featured three young and talented Vietnamese designers.
