The historic city of Malacca welcomed the maiden arrival of the Genting Dream cruise ship by Resorts World Cruises (RWC) yesterday.
The 4,500-passenger capacity cruise ship departs weekly on Sundays from Singapore to offer the brand new 2 Night Malacca cruise.
International celebrity and Visit Malaysia Year 2024 Ambassador, Ms Fan Bingbing was in Singapore yesterday to flag off the maiden voyage and the city of Melaka welcomed the ship with great fanfare for her inaugural arrival.
Disembarking guests were greeted by a special and colourful traditional performance with the Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh welcoming guests to the city of Melaka.
In conjunction with this milestone event, the Melaka government also held a special ceremony at the modern Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQS Complex).
To commemorate the inaugural arrival of the Genting Dream, Resorts World Cruises President, Michael Goh and the Melaka Chief Minister held a special memento exchange at ICQS.
For the first call to Melaka, the Melaka Tourism and the various attractions owners, including the Melaka River Cruise, Taming Sari Tower, the History and Ethnography Museum and Encore Melaka had collaborated with Resorts World Cruises to showcase these exciting places of interest with special shore excursion packages for disembarking guests.

Upon arriving at the Melaka ICQS, disembarking guests can immediately enjoy a variety of attractions within walking distance. It is a pleasant short 15-minute walk to the heart of Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring the red colonial buildings of the Dutch Square and the famous Jonker Street, known for its excellent shopping, dining and entertainment.
Passengers can also choose to take the Melaka River boats next to the ICQS Complex to see the historic port city with buildings influenced by the Portuguese, Dutch and English era, mural artworks, parks and colourful shops on both sides of the riverbank.
In addition, guests can also visit the History and Ethnography Museum located inside the Stadthuys building, built during the Dutch Malacca administration period in 1650. The historical section of the museum displays the history of Malacca since the1400s with the ethnography section portraying the lifestyle and culture of various local communities and traditional collections.
