Some 7,665 residents in Nibong Tebal will benefit from the two flood mitigation projects currently being planned.

Among them are the RM16.5 million along Sungai Kechil in Seberang Perai South and the RM11 million project in Sanglang.

To ensure the smooth flow of work carried out, the Deputy Minister of Environment and and Water, Dato Mansur Othman made a site visit.

“The residents in Kampung Sethu, Kampung Jawi and those along Sungai Jawi have been affected by flood waters over the years.

“Our aim is to minimise the impact of flooding and also the areas that get flooded.

“The flood situation becomes worse when there are high tides and also heavy rain,” said Mansor to reporters after his visit.

He expressed confidence that once the projects are completed, residents in these areas will be more safe as 80% of the area will be spared.

He also added that the riverbank will be developed for recreation and other economic activities.
