Today, Firefly has recommenced passenger flights to Phuket (HKT) from Penang (PEN) using its newly refreshed Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Flight FY3600 departed from Penang for Phuket and arrived at 2.20 PM local time with 134 passengers.

The airline will operate four times weekly from Penang (PEN) to Phuket (HKT) and vice versa.

The recommencement marked the second international destination for Firefly after Seletar in Singapore last June.

On hand to present goodies and welcome guests was Ms Lisa Wong, MAS Area Manager North and her team.

“As global travel restrictions, especially across ASEAN, are lifted, customers are excited and looking forward to travel for leisure hassle-free.

“The launching of our new Boeing 737-800 jets earlier this year will drive more traffic and fly more passengers to various destinations, connecting them between cities and favourite holiday destinations like Phuket.

“The service recommencement from Penang is conveniently timed to arrive at noon in Phuket to provide customers ample time to check in at their accommodations. Customers travelling to Phuket will enjoy scrumptious food and beverages, participate in handicrafts, watch street performances, stroll the beach and many more. In contrast, those travelling to Penang may explore the richness of Penang via historical colonial architecture, beautiful beaches, some of the world’s best street food and many more.” said Firefly Chief Executive Officer Philip See.

“It is great to see that Malaysian travellers from Penang think of Thailand as a preferred destination and ready to explore Phuket with the convenience of Firefly’s direct flight. Penang and Phuket share similarities in history and cultures. Malaysian tourists will feel like home away from home while enjoying unique Phuket southern food and the beautiful beaches. This year, there are 890,000 tourist arrivals to Phuket from all over the world.

“Thailand also welcomed 560,000 Malaysian tourists from January to August this year.” said Tourism Authority Thailand, Kuala Lumpur Office Mrs. Nongyao Jirundorn.

“Phuket has many to offer, it is a home to amazing beaches. Tourists will get to enjoy Phuket’s gastronomy, with a variety of food from Michelin restaurants to local street food. There are also many high-quality standard hotels and resorts with safe and hygienic practices to welcome all Malaysians,” said Tourism Authority Thailand, Phuket Office Ms. Nantasiri Ranasiri.

After recently launching to Langkawi, Johor Bharu, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, the resumption from Penang adds another destination flown by Boeing 737-800 planes.

Customers flying with our Boeing 737-800 jets can tailor-make their journey with the value bundle offers from Plus, Extra or Flex. It comes with a 20 KG checked baggage allowance, in-flight hot meals, two times flight changes, Enrich points, priority baggage, boarding & check-in, all seat selection, travel insurance and many more.
