All hands to the deck at the Golden Sands Resort
As in previous years, volunteers from the Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang prepared 1,000 packs of fried beehoon to be distributed at the annual “Chithirai Pournami” celebrations recently.

The annual ‘Chithirai Pournami’ celebration is part of the resort’s “Do Good-Community Project” irrespective of face or religion.
The team hailing from various departments was joined by spirited colleagues from all races formed an efficient production line to portion out ingredients, cook the noodles in batches and finally split it into individual servings.
The festival which is also known as “Mini Thaipusam”, is a Hindu festival celebrated across various parts of South Asia during the full moon of the Chaitra month.
In Penang, devotees throng the Arulmigu Balathandayuthapani Hilltop Temple carrying ‘paal kudam’ (milk offerings) and kavadis to fulfil their vows.
The resort’s Hindu colleagues also set up a refreshment stall along Jalan Waterfall, leading up to the temple, and distributed the fried beehoon and drinking water to offer devotees some refreshment from the harsh weather.
Present on site was Jegan Selvarajan, Cluster Director of Operations, Derek Kwan, Cluster Director of Food & Beverage, Sharlin Julius, Cluster Director of Rooms and Ranjit Singh, Front Office Manager of Shangri-La Golden Sands, Penang among other volunteers.
Such religious festivals are what make multicultural Malaysia so unique and the resort is pleased to be part of this annual occasion.
