In a gesture to pass the baton to the younger generation, out-going president of the Penang Hoteliers Association (PHA) Datuk Lim Mee Lee handed over the post to the in-coming president Dato Foong Hon Beng.

The gathering was held at the Cititel Penang where some 120 guests, family members and supporters gathered.

Also present was Dato Khoo Boo Lim, vice-president of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), Dato Tony Goh, chairman of the MAH Penang Chapter, Jonathan Freddy Bagang, Ms Lisa Wong (MAG Group), Ken Tan (AirAsia), Ms Mary Ann Harris, Ms Iyo Nakamoto representing the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang and Teoh Seng Aun representing the French Consulate in Penang among others.

In his address Lim added that the PHA has been around for the past 67 years and has played a vital role in developing tourism in Penang.

“I have been a member of PHA since 1976 which is 48 years and a president since 1984, which is 40 years. I think it is time for the younger people to take over and lead PHA to even greater heights.

“While I may not continue as the president of PHA, I will still be here to support PHA fully to help guide the new leaders in any way I can”, said Lim.

Guests were treated to several renditions of karaoke numbers and the fine dinner put out by the food & beverage department of the Cititel Penang.

The new line-up of PHA also posed for a group photo to help introduce themselves to the industry players.
